The target areas of CWS and our CNGO partners in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear provinces are facing serious floods. It is not only affecting and damaging the social sector but also agricultural production and infrastructure. It has caused the death of 34 people in Kampong Thom, 4 in Preah Vihear, 8 in Battambang; animals die and are sick; crops (rice, vegetables, and other crops) have been destroyed. National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) of Cambodia on October 10, 2011.
CWS and our CNGO partners have conducted preliminary and in depth assessments in consultation with National, Provincial, District and Commune Committees for Disaster Management, commune councils, village chiefs, village volunteers, and flood victims in the target areas. CWS also have participated in coordination meetings with NCDM, Save the Children, DanChurchAid, AusAID, other NGOs and local authorities about responding to the needs of the flood victims.
UN World Food Programme will provide 38 tons of rice and they will soon conduct spot check to verify the selected victim beneficiaries to ensure that all are poor and vulnerable families.
