Emergency Food Assistance to Flood Victim, the Case of Mrs. Tin Channy, Trapeang Tuk village, Bak Sna commune, Baray district, Kampong Thom province

Mrs. Tin Channy, 24 years old, has four family members within her house (5 years old son and 1 year old daughter). She has decided that two children are enough for her family. She manages to support them, but if more than that, she and her husband would have great difficulties.

They sell their labor and do work like weeding and harvesting cassava for others. Because of the floods, farming is not possible so no one hires them. Therefore, she decided to borrow 60,000 Riels (around USD15) from a farm owner in advance and when harvesting season comes she will have to harvest cassava, chop and dry 1 ton of cassava! Normally she would get 130,000 Riels/ 1 ton of dried and chopped cassava.

Her family was selected as beneficiary based on the criteria set up by the project. Her family is categorized as Poor 2, based on the Identification of Poor Households of Ministry of Planning and this was verified by CWS staff in her home.

Her family had never received any support so far. She now received 25 kg of rice, 15 canned fish, 1 bottle of vegetable oil (1.8L) and 1 kg of iodized salt. She feels very happy with the food items and said “Thank you so much CWS and other donors that are providing my family with food during these times when my family is facing food shortage. My family can now survive another 10 days with this food assistance.”
